How does it feel to open the eggs?

How does it feel to open the eggs?

“The process spoke to me about how important it is to say what we feel while we have the time. Because nothing, whether it’s a sparkly egg, or a mum, or a friend, is going to last forever!”

Opening the eggs combines contemporary art with ritual and symbolism to help us contemplate the cycle of life.

Once opened, the individual messages inside are read and treasured – in scrapbooks, collages and other personal ways.

“The visceral experience of cracking the eggs made so much sense. They were hard and yet fragile.”

“The broken pieces are just as beautiful as the complete eggs. I’ve kept them, all sitting on my shelf twinkling away.”

“Nina framed her messages in a big collage, which she looked at nearly every day.”

“I’ve kept the messages and put them in my journal. I go back and read them when I am having a bad day.

It can feel a unusual to open the beautiful Message Eggs; sometimes we want to hold on to things in life. That’s why we say “crack and ponder”.

Free wooden cracker

Hand-carved, locally-sourced cracker now included free of charge. It collects the “shell” while gently opening them.

Thanks for your feedback everyone!

What size shall I choose?

What size shall I choose?

It’s intimate, personal and communal

If you’re celebrating a special occasion or supporting someone with a normal sized community of friends and family, we recommend at least 40 Message Eggs.

Even people who seem to have small social circles end up having around 40 people they would love to hear from. Why? Scan this fascinating article, or just take our word for it.

Message Writers (we often call them participants) can be anywhere in the world. Even those very young and elderly can tell you what they want to say, infact some of the best messages have come from them.

“…its like a surprise party, with all your favourite people there.”

  • Aunts & uncles
  • Cousins, nieces, nephews

  • Overseas friends
  • Long lost friends
  • High school buddies

  • University buddies

  • The old party crowd

Every size guaranteed to delight

We offer a range to suit all budgets and a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

The main difference between Medium and the Full Experience is you get more choice, more help and it works out better value in the long run.

What if we get more/less messages?

What if we get more/less messages?

More than you plan for

If more people respond than you expect, that’s totally fine.

The Taste Of box is 5 Message Eggs only.

Extra eggs

£3 for each handmade Message Egg (bulk discounts may apply over 10 extra).

Wedding packages and other options may be available on request.

Full Experience

For example, if you commission the Full Experience and get 50 messages, that’s £30 extra (payable before delivery). For 10% more you might capture some of the most important messages your special person will ever hear. Let’s not limit it we possibly can. If money is a real barrier, see our By Donation FAQ for major illness.

Medium > Full Experience

If you commission the Medium Experience and get 40 messages, that’s an additional £60, taking it up to the same price as the Full Experience, which is usually what happens.

That’s why we say it’s best to go for the Full Experience from the beginning as you get more choice (eg. shell & box) and support (full facilitation and one-to-one calls), making it easier for everyone.

Less than Expected

We are encouraging and supporting you to access all the important people in the life of this person you care about. No matter how many decide to join in, it will delight. We don’t offer refunds but we do offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

See What Size to Choose FAQ too.

Message Eggs is a social enterprise

Message Eggs exist to bring more love, kindness and respect to all.

We’ve been part of the world wide social enterprise community since 1996.

Major Illness

We want to ensure anyone can receive this life-affirming experience. Don’t wait until it’s too late! Family or friends can order Message Eggs and pay nothing upfront for someone living with major illness. We simply ask for a donation of whatever amount you think it is worth after experiencing it.

One for One

Thanks to the kind donations of others, we also have funds set aside for those who cannot pay anything in our One for One scheme, just like the lovely folk at Tom’s. Get in touch if you would like to pay extra for someone else to receive.

Bequests & Donations

We also accept larger donations for our special outreach projects. Please contact us to discuss your wishes.

Charity Partner

We are currently looking for the right organisation to support. Please get in touch if you would like to explore a partnership, eg. profit share, co-promotion.

How to give a group gift

How to give a group gift?

Lydia Tomicic + Peter Marissen

Share the cost, fun, message collection and the anticipation by giving Message Eggs as a group gift.

Group gift giving allowes people to give and receive something more substantial than each person might be able to afford on their own.

Get the ball rolling by ordering and paying first to avoid delay, or plan further in advance to make sure you can count on them.

Then put the word out to a small group you think might value the suggestion. They can give you cash at the event or bank transfer before.

Friends usually really appreciate it if someone else has such a positive idea. Share our website to get them involved.

See Thea’s story.

Online tools can help too. Just google Group Gift.
